Life Extension D,L-Phenylalanine Capsules provides phenylalanine, an essential amino acid the body converts to L-tyrosine in the liver, which is in turn used to produce the catecholamines dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. This product is a 50/50 mixture of the D and L stereoisomers. According to the manufacturer, this product must not be used by individuals with phenylketonuria (PKU); because phenylalanine can elevate blood pressure, individuals with hypertension should consult their healthcare provider before use; and taking this product too close to bedtime may cause insomnia due to overstimulation.
