Ashwagandha ( Latin withania somnifera ) belongs to the nightshade family and is related to many useful plants such as tomatoes, potatoes or peppers and well-known medicinal plants such as the bitter-sweet nightshade. It originally comes from the South Asian region. But it is now also at home in Africa and the Mediterranean region. The plant already played a special role in ancient Asian medicine. Ashwagandha has been in Ayurvedic tradition for thousands of years for its valuable ingredients and its good toleranceknown and valued for use as an adaptogen. In addition to sleeping berries and winter cherries, it is also called "Indian ginseng" and can be compared with the importance of ginseng for Chinese medicine.
